To promote wound healing, current therapies concentrate on establishing a moist wound environment and on reducing the inflammatory milieu in chronic wounds. Therefore, a large assortment of dressings is available for the treatment of chronic wounds, but not all material options are able to handle the excess amount of exudate of highly exuding wounds. For these type of wounds, superabsorbent polymer (SAP)-containing wound dressings present a valuable family of wound management products.
