This article provides an overview of non-opioid analgesics. There is a consideration of the mechanisms of action of paracetamol, aspirin and the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The contraindications, cautions and side-effects of NSAIDs are summarized in a series of tables. There is a discussion of some of the common prescribing issues that relate to this group of analgesics.
