Duties/Responsibilities:
Performs all duties of an Orthopaedic Technologist plus the following:
• Determines the daily assignment for technicians and technologists and prepares the on-call work schedule.
• Performs simple and complex procedures independently and assists clinicians and technicians. This includes set-up and application of skin and skeletal traction, orthopaedic splints, braces and corrective orthopaedic devices.
• Documents clinical observations in the patient's medical record.
• Applies and assists with the application of extremity and body casts in the operating room, in-patient units and
cast room as indicated.
• Instructs the patient in the care of cast, brace or splint. Educates and demonstrates correct body alignment,
crutch training and other orthopaedic devices as indicated.
• Fabricates and applies thermoplastic splints and educates their patient in its use.
• Inspects and monitors traction setups and makes necessary adjustments as needed.
• Accountable for ordering supplies and maintaining equipment and orthopaedic devices.
• Coordinates preventative maintenance checks on equipment as required.
• Reviews and inputs orthopaedic policies as they apply.
